Camera Accessories

What kind of camera and accessories should I buy a 12 year old who wants to be a photographer?
He is now saying he wants to be a photographer and his 12th b-day is coming up soon, what should I buy him. Looking to spend between $100 - $200 as I have already bought him some stuff. Do not mind buying used as well. What should I get him?
Thank - you
One of the best ways to learn the basics of photography is a simple point and shoot camera. You can get a fairly decent one in the price range you have listed. I have always loved photography and got my start with a simple 110 camera when I was younger than your son. When I was about 13 my dad got me a 35mm point and shoot camera and I loved it. Now you can get a decent digital point and shoot for around $100. My suggestion would be the Canon Powershot A590 or something similar. That will allow him to have more control over some of the settings, like aperture, shutter speed and ISO that will help him learn how to use those things. Then later down the road if he decides this is something he wants to pursue further you can look into helping him get a D-SLR. Some people may discount a simple P&S but they really are a great way to learn about photography. And with digital you don't have to worry about "wasted" shots and it's a whole lot cheaper to learn than film.
