Canon Power

Help with my canon Power Shot?
I have a digital Canon Power Shot SD1200IS. I keep wanting to take pictures of my friend at her belly dancing gigs. But the lighting in restaurant is so dim, and I don't want to blind her with a flash.
But if I up the shutter speed, the image is too dark. ISO makes it grainy and I can't find a good balance.
I just want to take pictures that are not blurry as hell, that you can actually see.
Is there no way to do this?
As Selina alluded to, you are now experiencing the limitations of a point and shoot camera. They are designed for average snapshots in typical lighting. Trying to do what you are is simply beyond the design scope of the camera. About the only thing I can suggest is to up the ISO to whatever is needed to be able to get a shot, then change from color to black and white in post processing software. The grainy look can actually often add to the look of a black and white photo, and considering the subject matter, b/w might be the best look anyway.
