Digital Rebel Xti

How do I keep the flash from popping up on my Digital Rebel Xti when in Macro mode?
I want to use macro mode without a flash. The flash pops up every time. Is there a way to turn it off?
Macro mode is a full program automatic mode of the camera. It assumes you don't know what you are doing and tries to maximize the chance of you getting a sharp, in focus image. That's why the flash pops up every time, unless it meters a really bright scene. You can't keep it from popping up in this mode. But if you want to be in this mode, you can take a picture without flash. When you press the Shutter Button down half-way to focus and meter, this is when the flash pops up. While keeping it halfway pressed, just put the flash down and then fully press the shutter button.
If you want control of your camera, you need to be in either P, Tv, Av, M, (or A-Dep). Try this... put your camera on a tripod, put it in Av mode, and adjust the aperature of your lens to f/8 or f/11 by turning the dial. Don't dial in any exposure compensation (light meter centered at 0). Take the picture. Now take the same picture using the pop-up flash. Compare the two images. You'll see why in the full automatic mode, the camera always pops up the flash.
