Genuine Sony

my lenovo laptop doesnt detects my Sony Camcorder when connected through iLink cable. what should i do?
My Lenovo Laptop is from 3000 series, Windows Xp (home edition) OS, that i purchased 8 months ago. The Sony Camcorder is DCR-HC42E, a simple Video Recorder on cassette. I purchased a genuine Sony iLink cable to transfer data . But when it is connected, out of 10 times 2 times it is detected by the laptop but in that case also after 1 min a message appears that "computer is not able to connect with the device".
It sounds like a bad connection.
Make sure that everything is firmly plugged in. Make sure that the contact on the cable and in the sockets look good. If you can borrow another cable, another laptop and another camcorder to see which part the problem follows.
