Mark Iii
Does anyone know anything about 1998 Dodge Mark III Vans?
Are they any good? Do they have mechanical problems? We are looking at getting one but don't know anything about them and haven't been successful at finding anything on the internet.

Mark III was a conversion company that recieved vans from Chrysler Ford and GM then upgraded the interior and added cosmetic parts to the exterior such as running boards and ground effects. The vans were then sold through certain dealers that franchised with Mark III. The modifications they made were for comfort convenience and appearance only. The mechanical parts of the vehicle are exactly the same as when it left the assembly plant.
My wife and I used to own a Chevy Mark III van and we loved it. One thing you have to watch for is water leaks. Some times the seals around the bay windows leak allowing water to get in between the sheet metal and the boards that the inside upholstery is glued to. This can ruin the interior as well as let the van rust from the inside out. Also, I've seen many of these vans that have the paint bubbling up around the edge of the tape stripes. These problems are common to all conversion vans, not just the Mark III's.
These kinds of vans used to be very popular but are getting harder to find these days. There are still several companies making them though. Among them are Coachman, L A West, and, the one we have now, which is a Tuscany conversion. Mark III actually went bankrupt a few years ago and is no longer in buisness. That's why we bought our Tuscany. Mark III was the top of the line when we bought ours, but, Tuscany is, in many ways, even nicer. There's also a company called-believe it or not-Quigley Motor Company. They convert vans to 4 wheel drive. We have this option on our new van and let me just say that IT ROCKS. We have 3 teenagers who love camping and other outdoor things so, this van fits our needs perfectly. It also keeps my wife safe on her drive to work and back (80 miles round trip) in the snow.
