Do all Digital Cameras have a connection for professional lighting?
I am interested in a home studio lighting kit, just to start playing around and getting a feel for it. I am looking around, talking to some photographers about cost and make, but my question is...
Does the external lighting plug into the camera itself? If so, is there like a universal connector or will i have to make sure my camera is compatible with a certain brand of lighting equiptment?
What exactly will I need? I have a Canon Powershot sx10 is. Any information will be greatly appreciated 
I'm talking about external lighting, like the flash that goes off that is facing the umbrella. I'm new to all of this, sorry lol.
I understand that the lamps can be free standing, using filters to soften or sharpen the light. I'm talking about using a flash that is not directly or initally attached to the camera.
I guess you will have to define for us what your mean by having a connection to (for) professional lighting.
By professional lighting I will guess you mean studio flash units since the "other professional lighting, incandescent, needs on connection to the camera). If so, there are a number of ways a photographer can connect the camera sync to the flash units. 1) using an RC unit like a Pocket Wizard attached to the cameras Hot Shoe and the other Pocket Wizard attached to the flash units power supply, 2) connecting a PC connection to either the PC socket on the camera or to a hot shoe adapter with a PC socket on it. The second type physical connection, sometimes called tethering, is quite clumsy and can cause accidents if those cords are tripped over.
