Sony Hdr

How to transfer video files from Sony HDR HC1 using a Usb Cable?
Plugged it to my computer but nothing shows up, do I need to install some sort of driver or am I doing something wrong in the process? thanks for your help!
You cannot capture video from a tape based camcorder via USB, there are some that claim that they can through a device firewire to usb, but they are useless, you end up with poor quality video and lost frames, USB 2 cannot keep up with the data transfer rate, USB 3 will be a different matter Hopefully.
You need firewire, check in your device manager to see if you have one in your computer. If not then you will need to purchase a card and cable around 35$/£20 ish. only takes a few minutes to install and off you go, always put the card as close to the CPU as you can.
connect your camera to the computer via new cable and card turn your camcorder to play(VCR) mode and windows will sort out the drivers.
open your editing software, and goto capture then off you go.
remember files captured this way will be in a file called AVI and these will be very large files, 5 mins about 1gb also you are going to capture in real time 5 mins takes 5 mins to capture.
Good luck
